York branding photography - Melanie
N O W P L A Y I N G : ‘Surefire – Piano’ by Wilderado // I talk a lot about connection – it’s fundamental to every part of my work. I’m here to create imagery that reflections your relationships with your people and documents how you connect with your brand as it evolves.
When it comes to my branding photography sessions, it is essential to me that we meet and make sure we have the kind of connection that will fuel a successful partnership before you book your session. If we’re working together, you can expect all of the laughter, plenty of deep chats and the trial and error that inevitably comes with a creative adventure. I’m here to collaborate with you every step of the way.
Recently, I experienced what ‘re-connection’ can do for that working relationship after Mel reached out to talk about working on photography for her wedding planning business. We last saw each other in Year 11 at school, which well over twenty years ago, meaning we had an absolute marathon of a catch up to work through. Whilst I’m always here for the big laughs, it’s the first time plenty of the outtakes have been literally crying with reminiscing our teenage years.
Mel chose to come through to York and we worked for the first part her session in one of the gorgeous apartments in the Old Fire Station overlooking Clifford’s Tower. If you’re unsure about the location for your brand photography, renting a space that offers an aesthetic that reflects your brand is one option. The light in this apartment was all of the joy for me, though for balance, I did spend an embarrassing amount of time trying to get into the office below before I realised I was at the wrong door. Always here for a bit of public humiliation before a branding session.
We then wandered down the river and took some outdoor shots whilst getting coffee at SOPHiE by Skeldergate bridge. I always keep in mind how tiring it can be to be the sole focus of the session and am keen to build in opportunities to take a beat and refuel, not only caffeine, but of the kind of energy it takes to stay on top form for your photography.
The session took around three hours and we had an ongoing WhatsApp chat in the weeks beforehand where we batted around ideas and built a clearer understanding of how we’d work together, whilst still leaving enough room for things to unfold on the day. I was delighted when Mel loved her photos, here’s what she had to say about the session in her review…
“Sarah is such a talented photographer with an eye for detail. I loved my branding shoot with her, she made every element personal, comfortable and so much fun. I cannot thank her enough for the time we spent together making both our dreams move forward. Her communication, approach, professionalism and joyful personality made what can be hard to do, so easy.
Thank you.”
